Time to Go Away after My English Learning
My UK Trip, a precious experience, Hsu
We arrived at the event place about 8:30 P.M. We followed long, long queues through the checkpoint. There had been full of people around there. And as we got closer to the place, it got more and more crowded. It really exhausted us to walk through the crowed. The people looked so happy and excited. They held beer bottles or drinks and talked to their friends with big smiles. The people were getting higher and higher when the time was getting close.
However, it was a bit different to our imagination while we were waiting for the event. I’d seen the New Year’s Eve show in Taipei 101 on TV several times. There were many famous singers who were invited to sing popular songs to celebrate the hottest event in the year. It was not just an event, but also a big music concert! But at London Fireworks, there was no singer singing. We just stood and listened to the songs which DJ played until the event started. So it was a bit boring for us in the waiting time.
Tourist attraction
London New Year’s Eve Fireworks are known to the world. And they were the main reason we chose to visit UK. We were rather excited about this biggest event and we thought it was going be to an awesome night and it would be a big, crazy party. We booked the tickets of London Fireworks very quickly when they were allowed to be booked. And we especially chose the blue area because it was said to be the best position to watch the Fireworks.

When the countdown started, everyone was more and more excited. We followed the DJ to countdown and all of the people held their cell phones high as they could take the best moment of Fireworks. Then the lights of London Eye were staring to shine. The most fabulous moment was coming! Spectacular fireworks began to bloom. The sky was full of the fireworks in front of us, the lights of London Eye were changing and the bell of Big Ben was ringing. That was an incredible visual festival. It was truly wroth coming here to see!

We were very interested in European architecture because of its amazing structure, especially Gothic architecture. Besides enjoying the beautiful buildings on the streets, we also visited two historic places, Westminster Abbey, a 700-year-old Gothic building, and St. Paul’s Cathedral, a Baroque style building. These two cathedrals were just gorgeous. The architecture styles were totally different! Solemn atmosphere, incredible mural paintings and marvelous stained glass, I had no words to tell you how I felt when I was walking inside. The silence filled the whole area, we only could hear the priest speaking at the ceremony. You could see the strong belief on the believers’ faces. We didn’t believe the same religion though, we still could feel their pious power.

My sister and I especially planned to visit Covent Garden and Borough Market because they were two lively markets in London. We arrived at Covent Garden on a rainy day. Although the weather was bad, it was still filled with tourists. We stood in the indoor plaza to watch the street shows. The performers were quite serious to present themselves to cheer people up. It was easy to be touched by the atmosphere. And then we walked through a crowd at Apple Market to pick up some souvenirs for our family and friends. There were some special hand-made accessories and home decorations which were placed on the tables randomly. When we came to some vendors’ tables, they looked up at us, but they didn’t say anything and then they kept focusing on their work. The vendors were quite cool. Borough Market was a fresh food market. Producers brought their fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese or bread, etc., from different places in the UK to the market. The stall owners would tell the shoppers about their ideas and how they produced it, and you would know what you ate. My sister and I strolled over every stall and looked at their produces. Everything looked so delicious! So many different foods around us and they really made us feel dizzy, especially cheese. If you loved cheese, you couldn’t miss it.
Edinburgh
Everywhere is traces of history in Edinburgh, no matter in Old Town or New Town. We didn’t do too many activities on purpose because the city itself was the biggest attraction. Edinburgh Castle stood on the great rock, medieval buildings and uneven flagstones were in the streets, all made us feel we were in the Middle Ages. As we were in Edinburgh, we were the part of its history. So we just strolled in streets and experienced the life in Edinburgh.
I like to go jogging or to the gym, but I rarely did outdoor activities before. However, I wanted to do something differently, I planned to go hiking in Arthur’s Seat. That was a new try for me. Firstly, we had light footsteps to the entrance of Arthur’s Seat. We chose one of the paths to the top, and we found we made a mistake afterward. It was the most difficult path to the top…… My sister and I climbed the mountain with our hands and legs! But the scenery on the top was incredible! You could see the whole Edinburgh city views. No wonder people love to climb it. It was very worth doing it. But there was a shame, my sister and I both fell down while we were going down the mountain. We both got muddy red clay with our new clothes, and it really made us mad! In spite of the dirty clothes, it was the most special memory in UK for us.
Edinburgh
